NHS Hack Day

The Cloud Innovation Centre was pleased to be able to support the hugely successful NHS Hack Day on 1st – 2nd October 2016.

Over 100 attendees worked tirelessly over the two day event, discussing and dreaming up innovative solutions that might benefit the health service.

The weekend started with pitches from people with ideas. Several attendees stepped up to the microphone to give an overview of the projects they wanted to work on, in the hope that the talent in the audience would catch up with them afterwards to lend them a hand. Then it was straight into forming teams and harnessing brain power.

The Winners

All the teams offered strong contenders for prizes but the judges selected the following winners:

  • 3rd Place:
    • MySurgery – The My Surgery app offers easy-to-follow instructions to parents about their child’s surgery procedure
  • Joint 2nd Place:
    • WETFLAG – aims to provide a tech solution to help clinicians with the calculations associated with paediatric resuscitation
    • Dysbit – monitors the uncontrolled movements associated with dystonia, noting frequency and severity
  • 1st Place
    • PaLReP – offers a form of crowd sourcing, gathering information about rare conditions and informing research by designing and distributing surveys of patients/carers about the treatment of their condition.

Listen to our interviews with organisers and candidates on Audioboom and follow the day’s events on Storify.

Many thanks to all participants for a great weekend, and special thanks to Becky Wassall for coordinating the organisation of the whole event. Follow @NHSHackDay on Twitter for information about upcoming events in your area.
